Tony Finau’s authentic opinion on “plenty to play for” at the Tour Championship

Finau shot up the leaderboard Friday at the Tour Championship and acknowledges there is plenty to play for without winning.

Tony Finau signed for a 5-under 66 Friday at the Tour Championship to put him on the first page of the leaderboard.

He sits at 9-under overall and is currently in solo sixth place. However, Scottie Scheffler continues to keep his head down and keep his lead.

Even though Finau has a big gap to eliminate if he wants to win the Tour Championship, he keeps a positive attitude about it.

“There’s so much to play for no matter what,” Finau said after his round on Friday. “FedEx has done an incredible job of stepping up and giving us a great bonus no matter what happens this week.”

This week, the Tour Championship has a $100 million purse. After the regular season ended, the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 guys took home at least $2 million in bonus money, depending on where they finished. Scheffler earned $8 million for finishing No. 1 in the standings.

If he wins this week, he could see another $25 million hit his account.

However, not everyone can win the $25 million. The money up for grabs proves Finau’s point that there is so much to play for. Only 30 players made it to Atlanta, so they are the lucky few to have a shot at this massive purse.

“We’re always looking to improve our position no matter where we’re at, and I think that’s the case,” he said. “When I’ve been in that position where I haven’t had a chance to win, but you want to finish the year great no matter what, and so Saturday and Sunday, you put all your chips on the table and do your best to finish it.”

If Finau finishes in sixth on Sunday, he will take home $3,500,000, which is a great way to finish the season.

They all want to win, but only one guy can. That does not mean players stop being super competitive — no, they want to finish as high as possible to take home a nice check.
