PGA Tour players delivered incredible quotes ahead of the Tour Championship, including topics on the Cowboys and Georgia Bulldogs.

Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual — Golf Talk Today.

Today, we look at all the interviews from this week leading up to the Tour Championship and find some of the top ones.

These are the off-the-cuff, hilarious moments that showcase the personalities of the PGA Tour players. I love it when players open up or show off their humor in these situations. It makes them so much more approachable to the fans.

Despite the $100 million in prizes to win, the players discussed all sorts of things, from format thoughts to course restoration and their non-existent handicaps to the Dallas Cowboys and Georgia Bulldogs.

Let’s check out the best quotes so far as Round 1 gets ready to tee off around 11 a.m. ET.

“I’ll be checking some scores every few holes, I’m sure, while I’m playing. I’m not going to go with a set prediction, but I think it’s going to be a lot to a little. Oh, yeah. Big win for the Dawgs to start the year.”

— Chris Kirk on Saturday’s Georgia vs. Clemson game

“I think it would be pretty — I don’t want to say disrespectful, but I’d be pretty pissed if Scottie and I played a practice round and he’s like, do you want a stroke on this nine? It would be like, what do I think of myself and what does he think of me. Honestly, it would be a pretty good intimidation factor.”

I don’t know that field very well, but I know that, yeah, there’s a handful of influencers, people out there that people know them probably way better than they know me. And that’s not right or wrong, but that’s just the power of it.”

Justin Thomas on the Creator Classic field.

“I certainly don’t deserve to come here to East Lake and start on the same score as Scottie Scheffler. But it’s up to me to try and make that up this week.”

Shane Lowry on the FedEx Cup finale format

“Depends on the game, but at home, I’m typically playing to a plus 7. I used to be a plus 5. They moved me to a plus 7. So now we’ve got guys in the group that are getting like two strokes a hole. I typically still will win more often than not, I feel like, but it’s just fun.”

“Wherever the best players are competing I am showing up to those tournaments because I love the competition... When we go home and play Wolf for four hours, and I’m giving 20 strokes to a guy. I do not want to be giving him money at the end of the day whether it’s $5 or $500. I do not want to take out my wallet and hand him money. That’s not in my blood. I want to win, whether we’re playing ping-pong or whatever it is.”

— Scottie Scheffler on how he approaches competition

“It’s like the Cowboys have had great regular seasons the last few years and left me heartbroken in the playoffs.”
