Dariq Whitehead Update

Still getting past a string of injures, Whitehead is getting back to work.

Dariq Whitehead has had an awful run of bad luck since graduating high school. He had foot surgery in August of his freshman year at Duke, a lower leg injury that looked really bad but fortunately was short-term, and then a second surgery after his freshman season to fix some issues from the first one.

He had a shin injury in his rookie season that kept him out of all but two games.

He did play in summer league but obviously it’s going to take time to get to where he should be.

We didn't see as much from him at Duke as we would have liked, but what we did see was a guy who should be explosive and a great slasher. He wasn’t able to do that as much as he was used to obviously, but he made a huge impression by working hard on his perimeter shot, which was supposed to be a weakness.

He had an up-and-down run in summer league play, but his attitude about it was great: he sees it as a blessing and a chance to work.

The Nets are in a rebuild and that means he’ll get more opportunity and leeway than he normally might.

Given what we saw of his work ethic, we think that a healthy Whitehead should become a real asset for the Nets. We hope that he stays healthy and rehabs and can show the world what he is capable of, because Dariq Whitehead is a heck of a player.
