Clare Griffiths is a retired wheelchair basketball player and broadcaster.

She was born on September 18, 1979, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.

Clare’s athletic career is marked by her impressive achievements in wheelchair basketball, having competed in five Paralympic Games and earned numerous medals including seven bronze medals at the European Championships.

She began her sporting journey with county hockey and horseback riding, but her career took a dramatic turn in 1997 when she sustained a spinal injury in a horseback riding accident, resulting in paraplegia.

During her rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, she discovered wheelchair basketball.

She made her international debut at the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in 1998 and went on to represent Great Britain in multiple international tournaments.

In addition to her role as a player, Clare was a co-captain of the British team during the London 2012 Paralympics and played a key role in the team’s historic 4th place finish at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Her career also includes professional stints with Sardinia Sassari in Italy, making her one of the first British women to play in an international top league.

Clare graduated with a degree in sport and exercise science from Loughborough University in 2003 and has since transitioned into broadcasting.

She has worked as a commentator alongside Dan Strange at events such as the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
