Countdown to Craziness Set For October 4th!
Can we move that up to August 4th?
Countdown to Craziness, Duke’s annual basketball kickoff, is set for October 4th, a good bit earlier than in the past.
It’s always a good time and a chance to get to know good players. There’s always skits and contests and music and so on. It’s a good chance to see the team when they’re relaxed and in a mostly non-competitive environment.
The competition comes when the scrimmage starts and that’s going to be really interesting this year.
It’s impossible to know how the rosters will shake out but consider this as one possibility:
Blue:

- Kon Knueppel
White:
- Sion James
- Mason Gillis
- Maliq Brown
- Isaiah Evans
- Darren Harris
The Blue team has to be favored, right?
Well, maybe.
The White team, in this scenario, is much more experienced than the Blue team and that counts. Dean Smith used to make his freshmen play the upperclassmen early to establish a heirarchy and to deprogram the young kids who came in thinking they were hot stuff. By the time that ritual was over, they realized how little they actually knew and were more receptive to learning.
Of course we have no idea what Scheyer’s priorities are at this point and he may opt to do something entirely different. We’ll just have to see what he thinks of what he has to work with. But this is for sure: it’s going to be fun.
