UA Next Elite 24 showcase returns to New York

0 0

Under Armour Next Elite 24 is going back to its roots in August, returning to New York for the first time since 2016, when 48 of the best high school boys and girls basketball standouts compete in the premier showcase event of the summer.

The 14th edition of the event is set for Saturday, August 10 at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, with the Girls Game set for 6 p.m. ET and the Boys Game to follow at 8 p.m. Both will air on ESPNU.

In a first for UA Next Elite 24, some of the world’s most dynamic international boys prospects will join the top talent from the United States in a global basketball exhibition for the Boys’ Game. International players have taken their place among the best basketball players in the world, with each of the last six NBA MVPs being foreign-born players and each of the last two No. 1 picks in the NBA Draft are from overseas. Twenty international players were selected in the 2024 Draft, the most in a single draft since 2016.

Meanwhile, twenty-four of the country’s elite girls basketball stars, representing the next wave of the sport’s blossoming future, will compete in the third edition of the Girls’ Game.

“The return of Elite 24 to the bright lights of New York City brings the event full circle,” said Sean Eggert, Under Armour Senior Vice President of Global Sports Marketing. “Elite 24 has a special history in this city which serves as one of the great epicenters for basketball and hoop culture in the world. Building on the incredible success from previous years, we are thrilled to once again make our mark here and, for the first time, expand our reach globally by inviting top international athletes to showcase their talents alongside the best high school players in the United States.”

In UA Elite’s short history, six former players have been selected No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft, while 21 have been top-five selections, including 2022 Elite 24 participant Stephon Castle, who was selected No. 4 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

In total, 109 players who have participated in the event have been drafted by NBA franchises. Additionally, 25 boys have been named Associated Press All-Americans during their college careers, while Hannah Hidalgo, a 2022 Elite 24 standout, earned first-team All-America accolades – a first for a UA Next Elite 24 alumnae – as a Notre Dame freshman last year.
