Warriors waiving Chris Paul still a possibility

0 5
There is still a possibility that Golden State ultimately will waive Chris Paul, giving the team major cap relief. But sources told ESPN that the Warriors wanted to help ensure Paul had a good landing place on another team — if they can find the right deal. Paul’s contract would have to be included in any big trade for an All-Star-caliber player.

You know what? Fuck it. I’m gonna take a stab at predicting the NBA offseason. Here are my wild guesses (emphasis on “guesses”) at how the next week or so shakes out:
– Paul George traded to the Warriors for Chris Paul, Jonathan Kuminga, GPII and draft picks.
– Clippers redirect – 4:15 PM

Notable that the Warriors and Chris Paul only pushed his guarantee deadline back until Sunday, not into July. GSW now have a small window this weekend to figure out possible trade paths, but Paul needs clearer view of his future prior to free agency. – 1:19 PM

The Warriors and Chris Paul mutually agreed to push back his guarantee date on $30 million, per @wojespn.
With this happening, it likely indicates Golden State is indeed preparing to pursue Paul George and other star-level players. pic.twitter.com/Yj1UDFqsFl1:10 PM

“I see bits and pieces of my game in players like Chris Paul and Anthony Davis. I learn from how they play and think ahead on the court, which helps me improve my own game.”

More on this storyline

Adrian Wojnarowski: ESPN Sources: Golden State and Chris Paul intend to move back the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-2025 contract to the start of free agency on Sunday. Deadline was originally today. This gives Warriors time to keep exploring trades. -via Twitter @wojespn / June 28, 2024
League sources believe Andrew Wiggins, who struggled to find a consistent role last season, will be aggressively dangled in trade talks. The Warriors are also working hard to find a trade partner for Chris Paul, whose non-guaranteed $30 million salary for 2024-25 could be useful for matching purposes—but they have only until Friday, the last day they can waive Paul before his deal becomes fully guaranteed for next season. (Unless Paul and the Warriors agree to push the guarantee date into July.) -via The Ringer / June 26, 2024
Dunleavy commented on the organization’s stance regarding the timing for Paul’s contract and its possible flexibility. “I’m okay with the date. I guess we’ll see if that changes,” Dunleavy said. “But for now, I’m good with it. I understand the rules. We’ll abide by it.” In his first season with the team in 2023-24, Paul was a key part of the Warriors’ bench, averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game in 58 appearances. It’s not often a team has the ability to bring in a 12-time All-Star to relieve a 10-time All-Star, but the Warriors had that luxury with Paul playing behind Steph Curry. -via NBC Sports Bay Area / June 25, 2024
