What’s the buzz on Twitter?

So, the Wizards have Alex Sarr. The questions now:
• Will they try to package 14 and 26 for a lottery pick above 14?
• Having already agreed to trade Deni Avdija, will they attempt tonight to trade anyone else on the roster? – 8:32 PM

This Wizards front-office led by President Michael Winger (who took over May 2023) will be different than the regime before.
They did well extending Deni Avdija in October despite not being sure if he was a long-term fit for them, to avoid losing the asset for nothing. They now – 8:25 PM

The how and why of the Wizards trading Deni Avdija to the Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon, two firsts – including Portland’s second first-rounder this year, 14th overall, and two future seconds. It’s our NBA draft night blog, in @TheAthletic:

I’m at the @trailblazers Tualatin practice facility for the NBA draft and according to an ESPN report, GM Joe Cronin has already made a deal, sending G Malcolm Brogdon, the No. 14 pick and either a first- or second-round pick in 2029 to @WashWizards for F Demi Avidja. The 6-9 – 7:30 PM

I get that nobody watched the Wizards last year but Deni Avdija is pretty good lol – 7:24 PM

Imagine going from Portland…. to Washington. Daaaamn, that’s rough.
Hopefully you get bought out, Brogdon. – 7:06 PM
Evan Sidery @esidery
The Wizards remain active in trade discussions centered around Kyle Kuzma as well.
Washington could attach Kuzma alongside Nos. 14 or 26 to move up even higher in the draft from their current slots.
Kuzma and Malcolm Brogdon are players who might still be on the move tonight. pic.twitter.com/ZNfSjrZ2Hh7:04 PM

In the deal that will send Deni Avdija to Portland, the second-round picks the Wizards will receive will be in 2028 and 2030. Washington also will get tonight’s 14th pick and, as reported elsewhere, the second-most favorable of Portland’s 2029 first-round picks, per source. – 7:03 PM
Sam Vecenie @Sam_Vecenie
Really good deal by Washington. Deni is about to become one of the best value contracts in the NBA, but a lottery first, another first, and Brogdon (be it either keeping him or shipping him somewhere else) is a good bit of business. – 7:02 PM
Yossi Gozlan @YossiGozlan
Malcolm Brogdon presumably becomes a trade candidate who could get rerouted from the Washington Wizards.
Most teams operating below the $178.7 million first apron would only need to send out $14.7 million to match for his $22.5 million salary. – 7:00 PM
Yossi Gozlan @YossiGozlan
The Portland Trail Blazers will also get some much-needed flexibility.
They went into the offseason over the $178.7 million first apron, making it difficult to make any moves.
They are now $4.2 million below the luxury tax by moving off Malcolm Brogdon’s $22.5 million and #14. – 6:56 PM

Deni Avdija last season:

7.2 RPG
50.6 FG%

Neil Dalal @NeilDalal96
Deni Avdija frequently talked about how morale boosting it was to be the first big signing of the new front office when he signed a bargain of an extension.
Less than a year later and he’s shipped out of DC. Brutal business. – 6:56 PM
Synergy Sports Tech @SynergySST
Deni Avdija made a major leap this season knocking down 41% of his catch and shoot three-point attempts after converting only 32% last season. He improved as a finisher as well. – 6:54 PM

More on this storyline

Michael Scotto: The Trail Blazers acquire a rising young wing player in Deni Avdija and move below the luxury tax threshold. The Wizards acquire future draft capital, and Malcolm Brogdon will become a trade candidate to be flipped by Washington, sources told @hoopshype. -via Twitter @MikeAScotto / June 26, 2024
Bobby Marks: Deni Avdija signed a four-year $55M extension last offseason with Washington. Because of the poison pill restriction in the contract, the trade cannot be completed until July 6. Malcolm Brogdon is on an expiring $22.5M contract for next season. Avdija: $15.6, $14.4, $13.1 and $11.9. The trade knocks Portland below the tax and first apron. -via Twitter @BobbyMarks42 / June 26, 2024
Adrian Wojnarowski: The Blazers are sending the second most favorable of their 2029 first-round picks and two second-round picks in the deal for Avdija, sources tell ESPN. -via Twitter @wojespn / June 26, 2024
