OG Anunoby to consider various teams in free agency?

0 4
While league personnel are of the mind Siakam will certainly be re-signing with Indiana, there was word circling among team officials at last week’s NBA Draft Combine that Anunoby’s situation with the Knicks is not as cut and dried. Perhaps those signals to rival teams will only help Anunoby elicit a larger dollar figure from the Knicks. But various teams left Chicago with the belief that OG Anunoby could reach unrestricted free agency and consider deals from other franchises in addition to New York, sources said.

On today’s show, we will NOT be focusing on Paul George.
OG Anunoby has been re-attached to the Sixers ahead of free agency. Can they (and should they) steal him from the Knicks?

More on this storyline

From a sheer numbers standpoint, the Bucks and Pelicans don’t hold a candle to other teams. The Cavs suffered 44 player games lost due to injury in 12 team playoff games, giving them a staggering 3.5 absences per team game — the highest such number in the league. Notably, the other teams at the top of the injury list — the Los Angeles Lakers (3.4) and Miami Heat (3.2) and New York Knicks (2.5) — have been eliminated from contention. Led by Thibodeau, the Knicks joined the chorus of teams that are singing the “If we were healthy …” tune to soothe their respective fanbases. By the end of the conference semifinals, the Knicks could have fielded an entire starting lineup — Jalen Brunson, Bojan Bogdanović, OG Anunoby, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson — with players who were ruled out due to injury, not to mention Josh Hart who was clearly limited with an abdominal strain. -via Yahoo! Ryan Dunn: “There are a lot of players I watch like Paul George and Herb Jones too defensively. I think the closest I probably have is OG Anunoby right now with him in the playoffs with his size and strength defensively.” -via HoopsHype / May 21, 2024
Anunoby is a free agent, and while New York is the overwhelming favorite to re-sign him, the details remain a question. Does he come back for $35 million a year? Or might the average annual value approach $40 million? Or maybe more than that? There are not many more versatile defenders, ones who can start on point guards through centers. Only a few of the guys who fit that description also can deliver 15 to 18 points. -via New York Times / May 20, 2024
