YouTube Gold: Caitlin Clark’s WNBA Debut
Same as it ever was
Caitlin Clark was a historic and revolutionary figure in women’s college basketball, as an Iowa Hawkeye, doing things that no one had done before.
There were - and for some people still are - questions about whether or not she can do it in the WNBA. You’ll recall that a lot of the current players in the league warned her that things would be different, that it wouldn’t be so easy.
Well, maybe, maybe not.
If her first -pre-season game is anything to go on, she’s going to do just fine.
Obviously this is just one game and it’s pre-season, so there’s a lot of things that she has to learn. However, it’s also obvious that she has an extra gear that no one else in this game seemed to have. Look how easily she dumps her defenders and how confidently she shoots.
It’s still early, as noted, but this does not look like a typical deferential, uncertain rookie. Not to get carried away, but it reminds one a bit of Larry Bird’s reaction when the got to the NBA. He said it took him three days to understand that, to him, the league was nothing special. He knew he could dominate it.
It’s a small sample size, but it sure looks like Clark is going to dominate the WNBA too.
