Tim MacMahon on Jalen Green: 'Rockets believe he can be the best non-big defender in the NBA really soon'

0 6
Tim MacMahon on Jalen Green: You ask Ime Udoka about Jalen Green and he didn’t talk about the fact this guy’s put up 30 per game over a 10-game winning streak. He didn’t talk about the scoring. He talks about the progress he’s made as a defender, as a rebounder. He had 10 rebounds again last night, as a facilitator making the right reads. He had seven assists last night. I think four of those were in the last minute or so of the fourth quarter. So there’s certainly optimism that a 22-year-old who’s had a rocky rollercoaster career, that was the number two overall pick, is turning a corner… The Rockets believe and have data to back up that he can be the best non-big defender in the NBA really soon.’

That’s 11 straight wins for the Houston Rockets.
They misfired from three all night. Missed 10 free throws. It was UGLY. But they found a way to win. Big defensive play by Jabari followed by a huge jumper by Fred late, but Jalen Green played the superstar role again with 34… – 11:54 PM

Jazz 72, Rockets 69 after 3. Jalen Green accounted for 82 % of Rockets scoring in the quarter with 20 points, one assist for a FVV 3. But he’s up to 31 minutes after playing 46 on Wednesday. Someone will need to step up. – 11:18 PM

Jazz finish that quarter on a 14-2 run, and lead by 72-69.
Fun quarter… a Collin Sexton 360 alley oop, Jalen Green scored 20 points in the 3rd, and a couple of really impressive defensive plays from Kris Dunn. – 11:17 PM

Salman Ali @SalmanAliNBA
As many strides as Jalen Green has made this year, one area he still hasn’t shown enough improvement in is ball handling.
It’s still just way too easy for some of these defenders to pickpocket him. – 11:13 PM

More on this storyline

David Hardisty: Ime Udoka absolutely nails it here on the need to be patient with young prospects. “I don’t judge Jalen [Green] on the past two years or even the start of this year. It was ‘How good is he going to get with us throughout this season?’ And now you see him hitting his stride and understanding. That’s what we’re looking at big picture-wise. It’s not always going to happen overnight for guys. Patience is really important with our young guys.” -via Twitter @clutchfans / March 29, 2024
David Hardisty: Ime Udoka said Jalen Green’s incredible run is a combination of his mindset/confidence and team tactical changes: “The aggressiveness and confidence is obviously up, and that’s due to making shots and reading defenses better. So that’s part of it, but with Alperen [Sengun] being out, the ball is in his hands more and he’s getting more opportunity there. When you’re in that rhythm, and he’s shooting it as well and attacking as well as he is, he’s going to have the ball more.” -via Twitter @clutchfans / March 29, 2024
NBA Central: ESPN’s Tim MacMahon says the Rockets want to make a big swing in the trade market “I don’t know if both Alperen Şengün and Jalen Green will be around long term.” 👀 (h/t @iamsohappy28 ) -via Twitter @TheNBACentral / March 29, 2024
