Trial date for civil suit accusing Jaxson Hayes of domestic violence moved to July

The lawsuit, which also alleges that Jaxson Hayes falsely imprisoned his ex-girlfriend, was originally filed in March of 2022.

The trial date for the civil suit accusing Lakers center Jaxson Hayes of domestic violence and false imprisonment was pushed back from Feb. 21, 2024, to July 8, 2024 when a judge granted Hayes’ lawyers’ motion for a continuation on Thursday, Dec. 7.

The lawsuit was initially filed by Hayes’ ex-girlfriend in March of 2022, and stemmed from an incident in July of 2021 in which Hayes was tased and arrested in his Los Angeles home following a domestic disturbance call. The response was caught on police bodycams.

Hayes pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges of false imprisonment and resisting an officer in that case. He was sentenced to three years of probation — which will run until June 2025 — a year of weekly domestic violence classes and 450 hours of community service.

At Summer League in Las Vegas this past July, Lakers vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka was asked about Hayes’ arrest and ongoing legal situation and had the following to say:

“I think the most important thing is we take those things very seriously and do a full vetting process,” Pelinka said. “Jaxson has been very sincere (with) his apologies around handling that and has moved beyond it to where he’s had a year or two in the NBA playing after it. It was something that we felt like he owned, took responsibility for it, and is going to be a better person on the other side of it.”

Last offseason, the Lakers signed Hayes to a 2-year, veteran’s minimum deal with a player option for the second year.
