[Women's Basketball] Jackson snags third straight KCAC Women's Defensive Player of the Week award
WICHITA, Kan. – Another week, another accolade for Friends University women's basketball defensive stalwart Taylor Jackson. The league office announced today (Jan. 16) that Jackson has been named KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the third straight time and fifth time overall this season. It's also incredibly the eighth such honor overall for the sophomore standout.
KCAC Player of the Week honors are sponsored by Equity Bank.
Jackson was once again a major deterrent inside for the Falcons. She averaged nine defensive rebounds along with a whopping 7.5 blocks in two outings this past week.
The Houston, Texas native had 12 defensive rebounds and seven blocks to fuel a victory over McPherson College last Wednesday night (Jan. 11) before swatting eight more shots (just one shy of her career-high) along with six more defensive boards Saturday (Jan. 14) at Bethany College.
With her eight blocks at Bethany, Jackson moved into first place on the Falcons' modern-era record for blocks with 157 career swats.
"Taylor dominated the post at the defensive end this week," said Friends women's basketball head coach Dean Jaderston. "With 15 blocks in two games and numerous other altered shots, she absolutely changed the game. Each week she gets better at protecting the rim without fouling. It's absolutely amazing the difference she makes."
Jackson is tops in both the NAIA and KCAC with 3.4 blocks per game and is second in the league in defensive rebounding (6.4).
Next up for Jackson and the Falcons is a matchup at Bethel College Wednesday evening (Jan. 18) at 6 pm in North Newton, Kan. The Falcons will then return to the Garvey Center to host Kansas Wesleyan University next Monday (Jan. 23).
