0 2

Doane Men's Basketball picked up their first win of the young season on Sunday afternoon in Crete, defeating Union (Neb.), 89-47. The Tigers are 1-1 on the season while Union is 0-3.

The Warriors battled with Doane early on as the score was 10-7 in favor of the Tigers at the 13:26 mark. Doane used a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 24-10 lead. The Tigers pushed the lead to 27 points, 43-16, with 2:44 to play in the half and led 45-24 at the break.

The second half started sloppy, as the teams combined for three turnovers and a missed shot attempt on the first four possessions. Doane was scoreless through the first two minutes but the cold spell was snapped on an offensive rebound and putback by Alec Oberhauser (SR/Parkersburg, Iowa). The basket would also spark a 26-2 run as the Tigers pushed the lead to 42 points, 71-29, with 9:55 to play. Doane's largest lead of the game was 43 points.

Every player who stepped on the court for the Tigers, 14 in total, scored in the game. Brady Timm (SO/Yutan, Neb.) posted 17 points, hitting five 3-point baskets, and Oberhauser also added 17 points, going 8-of-9 from the floor. Oberhauser led the team with 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Trey Yates (JR/Adams, Neb.) also made it into double figures for points, finishing with 11 points.

Nick Saiz (JR/Lexington, Neb.) and Oberhauser tied for team-high honors with four assists apiece while Guy Moran (JR/Centralia, Mo.) and Oberhauser were tied with three steals apiece in the game.

Doane finished the game shooting 48.6-percent (36-of-74) from the floor and 39.3-percent (11-of-28) from behind the arc. The Tigers were 6-of-10 at the free throw line. Union shot 34-percent (17-of-50) from the floor and 29.2-percent (7-of-24) from 3-point range. They were 6-of-14 at the free throw line. Doane doubled up the Warriors in rebounds, 50-25.

Union received 15 points from Derek Warren and 11 points from Garrett Fortney. Danset Okemwa led the team with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Tigers will be in Salina, Kansas, for their next two games as they participate in the Kansas Wesleyan Classic. On November 4, Doane will face Bethany at 6 PM to start the classic. The Swedes were a 20-game winner last season and are 1-0 this year after a 93-80 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
