[Men's Basketball] Cleary tabs Thomas to lead men's basketball program
HOWELL, Mich. - (CU Release) - Cleary announced Carl Thomas as the school's first-ever head men's basketball coach. Thomas is charged with starting the program from scratch in order to compete in the 2023-24 season. He spent the last six seasons with Duquesne Universtiy as an assistant coach and served four years as head coach for Jackson College.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, he posted 1,179 points, 452 rebounds, and 249 assists during his career and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2021. After his collegiate days, Thomas started his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before being called up to the NBA from 1991-99 where he played for the Sacramento Kings, Cleaveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Orlando Magic.
