[Men's Basketball] Slow Start Creates Deficit Too Big To Overcome at USK

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - After several cancellations due to COVID protocol, the San Diego Christian College Hawks got out to a slow start that proved too difficult to overcome, losing to the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 60-74 Wednesday at the USK Sports Complex.

Early shooting woes and costly turnovers allowed the Firebirds to create quick separation from the Hawks. A loss of flow that comes with a long layoff between games was evident in the San Diego Christian first-half effort allowing host USK to amass a 14-point halftime lead.

The Hawks would begin the second half equally flat and the Firebirds would take advantage increasing their lead to as much as 26 points within the first nine minutes.

Kyle Ruiz, Bryson Becker, and JaMario Harris would do their best to get SDCC some momentum back, combining to create a 25-13 run in favor of the Hawks to close out the game. The deficit proved too big to overcome, however. The last-minute scheduled game was just what the Hawks needed to shake off the cobwebs before GSAC play ramps back up on Saturday.
