Podcast: Do you believe Damian Lillard?

Damian Lillard is really loyal to the Blazers and definitely did not have a recruiting meeting with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Lakers this summer.

Damian Lillard seems to spend quite a bit of energy and public capital on telling everyone how content he is in a situation that isn’t all that different from the situation he was very much not content with mere months ago. This week on “I Love Basketball,” Sabreena Merchant and I give our thoughts on the latest story and, well, we’re not buying it.

Before we get to that, though, we discuss the rotation as it currently stands and the tweaks to it Frank Vogel has already made. He seems to have made his decision on Avery Bradley vs. Rajon Rondo and, as of now, his choice seems to make quite a bit of sense — at least until more guys become available over the course of the season.

Vogel will have some tough decisions to make when Kendrick Nunn comes back (hopefully soon), and even moreso with Talen Horton-Tucker and Trevor Ariza. Sabreena and I try to figure out what that might look like, both in terms of minutes allocation and who might even continue with the team as other options become available.

Back to Dame, though, this latest press release (which included how late he puts his kids to bed and, sir, come on) was interesting on a variety of levels. It’s an interesting look into the accountability players need to take if they are going to be empowered, the benefits of said empowerment, and which lines different players are willing to draw in the sand before they say enough.

Regardless of what Dame wants us to think, we know that line in the sand is near, if it hasn’t been crossed already. He can’t keep trying to convince us of something he isn’t all that sure about either.
