Illinois junior center Kofi Cockburn, the 2021-22 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, has been suspended three games by the NCAA for NIL violations.

Cockburn will miss games against Jackson State, Arkansas State and the contest against Marquette in the Gavitt Tip-off Games.

Cockburn was suspended for selling “institutionally issued apparel and memorabilia” prior to July 1, when the NIL rules were adopted allowing college athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness.

Cockburn averaged 17.7 points and 9.5 rebounds last season.

He considered entering the NBA Draft, but opted to return after getting feedback from NBA personnel.
