[Volleyball] USK Get Big Road Win Over Westmont
Saint Katherine went on the road and took down (RV) Westmont in a thrilling five-set non-conference match. In the opening set, the Firebirds used a five-point streak to take a 12-5 lead, and from there they cruised to a 25-18 win. The last two points came on kills by Makenzie Nutting, who finished with a match-high 15 kills. USK pulled out a 25-23 win in the second set, and the possibility of a sweep arose in the third set when the Firebirds held a 23-20 advantage. But the Warriors regrouped and reeled off five straight points for the win. Westmont carried that momentum into the fourth set, using two lengthy runs en route to a 25-19 win to force a fifth and deciding set. The Warriors continued to look strong, jumping out to a 7-4 lead, but USK answered with four straight points to move ahead by one, 8-7. The lead bounced back and forth and, trailing 13-12, USK took a time out. From there, the Firebirds took the next three points with Nutting earning two of the those with kills, and they won 15-13. USK's Samantha Shaffer added 14 kills and 13 digs, Mariah Cable handed out 32 assists, and Camille Harvey totaled a team high 21 digs.
