[Men's Soccer] Soka Tops MCU, Remains Unbeaten in Pod Play
Soka University of America's 3-1 win over Marymount California was big because it kept the Lions (3-0 in conference, 5-4 overall) unbeaten in South Pod play and tied with the Mariners (3-1, 7-4-1) at the top of the division with nine points. But the victory was even bigger considering it was the first time in program history that SUA has defeated MCU, dating back to 2015. The Mariners topped the Lions twice in 2015, two more times in 2016, and once in each of the succeeding three seasons. Technically, SUA did receive a win in 2018 when MCU had to vacate all its wins, but overall, in those seven straight setbacks, the Mariners outscored the Lions 28-5 before Sunday's convincing victory for SUA when Mikey Venezia, Alex Tavarez, and Jesus Cabrera each found the back of the net while keeper Riley Grosso picked up 10 saves while anchoring the Lion defense.
