Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards Predictions and Picks

I’ve been on the wrong end of a string to fade teams when their best player is out, so I’m hoping the basketball gods return the favor this time around. At times, the NBA will humor you as just when you think a game is a slam dunk is when the superior team puts forth a mediocre and lackluster performance. Players coming off the bench are also often motivated. In a sport where there are only five players for each team on the court, one player can make a massive difference in a game, particularly when they’re looking to make a statement.

That’s exactly the scenario we have on Sunday night as the Cavaliers will be without one of their best players in Collin Sexton. However, they still have veteran players like Kevin Love and Larry Nance Jr. mixed in with youthful players like Darius Garland and Isaac Okoro.

This is potentially a flat spot for a Wizards team that rides in high on a seven-game winning streak. The problem for Washington is that this game is almost buried in the calendar as it’ll be at the end of the week on a Sunday with very little national coverage. Those things do tend to happen on Sundays in the NBA, and that’s why I’m not surprised the total has gone under in their last four games on the calendar day. A lower-scoring game would certainly benefit Cleveland more because they don’t necessarily want to get into a shootout with Washington.

Cleveland is 6-2 ATS in their last eight meetings in Washington. They’ve also been feisty in their last three games, and as they’ve gone 1-2 but haven’t lost by more than six points in either contest.

My model makes Washington a five-point favorite in this contest, so I’ve got a bit of value on the current line at +7. There’s not a lot to like on this NBA card, but if you’re looking for a game to sweat, take the points with the Cavaliers on the road.

The Pick: Cavaliers +7
