Windler has been out for the last several games.

According to a press release from the Cavs, forward Dylan Windler will be out indefinitely after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday. Per the team, the surgery was to “address ongoing patella tendinopathy concerns” and that it was decided upon after imaging on the knee, plus evaluation from team doctors, signaled that surgery was the best treatment option.

“Spirit-wise, I’m pretty sure he’s down,” said Cavs assistant Greg Buckner before Cavs-Bulls on Wednesday evening in Cleveland. ”I kind of went through similar situations throughout my NBA career. So I definitely know what he’s going through, and we’ve talked about that in the past. But you know, he’s still young, he still has a chance to have an amazing career when it comes to NBA, he’s just got to get his body healthy. That’s between him and the medical staff as far as what he did and why he did the surgery. I think he felt like he needed it to get his body healthy so he could be ready to play.”

Windler’s surgery was performed at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago by Dr. Brian Cole . Cavaliers team physician Dr. James Rosneck was “in consult” on the surgery, per the team. It is unclear when he will be back.

Windler, a first-round pick out of Belmont in 2019, is in his rookie year after missing all of last season due to injury. This year, he’s appeared in 31 games with averages of 5.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He has not played since March 26 against the Lakers.
