[Men's Wrestling] Three-Year Senior Wrestlers Receive Varsity Letterman Jackets

Despite the ravages of COVID-19 taking away their senior season, six Williamson winter sports athletes were awarded their Varsity Letterman jackets in a special presentation in chapel on Tuesday.  The jackets are given to Williamson student-athletes who participated in a varsity sport all three of their Williamson years.

What was unique about this year's presentation was the fact that none of the four wrestlers and two basketball players were able to actually compete for the school this past winter, as the school was forced to cancel its winter sports seasons due to COVID-19.  That, however, made no difference to Williamson athletic director Dale Plummer or the rest of the Williamson administration, as each of the six student-athletes were given credit for their senior season.

"We know each of the six guys very well and we know their hearts and we know they would have participated if given the opportunity.  There was no way we were going to let COVID rob our guys of this very special honor," explained Plummer.

The four wrestlers receiving a jacket were Joe Ehly, Barry Boyle, Avery Frank and Mike O'Brien.  The two basketball players were John Busa and Vatangoe "Tango" Donzo.  Both Frank and O'Brien were two-time NCWA national qualifiers.  Donzo was a first team USCAA All-American and was runner-up for the 2019-20 USCAA National Player of the Year award, as he led the nation in blocked shots, was second in rebounding and ninth in scoring.

"We are extremely proud of, and thankful for, the efforts this group put forth to compete for and represent Williamson on the field and in the classroom.  Each is a first-class representative of Williamson and very deserving of this honor," closed Plummer.
