Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards Predictions and Picks

This is the time of the year in the NBA season where you’d definitely want to be paying attention to which teams are finishing the season strong and which are doing their best to avoid jeopardizing a possible lottery pick. On Saturday in Washington D.C., two teams that fit those descriptions will face off.

The Pistons somehow backdoored their way to victory on Friday night at home against the Thunder. The Thunder are probably one team that wants less to do with a victory than the Pistons at this point in the season. It’s almost as if the Thunder reached their win quota for the season and said enough is enough. They’ve lost their last nine games, and each of them has been by double digits.

I’m banking that we won’t get that winning performance from Detroit two nights in a row. Their recent history suggests that this is a bad spot to back them when they’re off a win or ATS cover.

Washington won’t have to think that far back when we shellacked 120-91 on the road by the Pistons. The Wizards are technically tied for the tenth and final spot in the playoff play-in tournament. While it’s not an ideal situation, there’s still a ton of pride left in the team, with Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal leading the way.

Simply put, this game means more to the Wizards, and with a revenge spot in mind, they’re a good bet to get both the win and the cover. If you don’t think the rest of the season means something to Washington, look at how they’ve played in their last six games with five wins and ATS covers. One of those was even an outright win over the Jazz in Utah as a 10.5 point underdog.

And with Washington covering each of their last five games at home against the Pistons, I like that trend to continue on Saturday night.

The Pick: Wizards -4.5
