A great get especially with DJ Steward having just departed

Duke landed a commitment from 6-5 shooting guard Trevor Keels on Friday.

Generally seen as a 5 star recruit, Keels was a high school teammate of Duke point guard Jeremy Roach at Paul VI Catholic High in Chantilly, Virginia.

Keels cited his relatinonship with Mike Krzyzewski as the difference, saying on ESPN “[t]hat relationship I had with Coach K was different.”

“Me and Coach K have a great relationship,” Keels told ESPN. “He was always the same during the process. Straightforward guy. He told me what I needed to hear. He told me to change my body. I did, and now I’m lighter and more explosive.

“My game is not complete. I trust Coach K and Duke to help reach my goals of playing in the NBA. I am not looking just at the NBA. My focus is on the Duke team and winning college basketball games.”

He’ll add outstanding shooting to a team that could use another shooter. Given the way things are right now it’s impossible to say for sure who will be back, but Matthew Hurt may well opt for the NBA and that would leave Roach Joey Baker and Wendell Moore as likely the best three point shooters returning, so Keels will have a role from Day One, assuming he can fully embrace it. Potential is only that until you realize it.

His other choices were Villanova, Virginia and Kentucky.
