Philadelphia 76ers vs. Toronto Raptors Predictions and Picks
This is a good-old-fashioned Atlantic Division matchup featuring two teams that are very familiar with one another. The Raptors have won the division six of the last seven years, while the 76ers hope to supplant them and take down their first divisional title in 20 years.
The Raptors come into this game in a nice defensive groove as they’ve held their opponents to less than 100 points in each of their last two games. This season, they’re Raptors seventh in allowing their opponents 1.07 points per possession. Right above the Raptors is the 76ers, who are sixth in allowing 1.063 points per possession.
Toronto has battled back to even up their record this season at 15-15. It’s actually the first time they’ve been at .500 this season, and their recent three-game winning streak could suggest that they’ve finally turned the corner. They currently sit in fourth place in the division, five games behind the 76ers and a half-game ahead of the sixth-seeded Hornets.
Perhaps Toronto is finally getting settled in Tampa Bay since COVID-19 travel restrictions meant they would play all their home games on American soil.
I would expect them to put forth a good effort tonight, starting with their defense. They’ve won each of their last four matchups when they hosted the 76ers and held them to under 100 points on each occasion.
I think there’s a strong case that can be made for the under in this spot. Keep in mind that the Raptors are 7-5 to the under as the home team this season, and the under has cashed not only in four of their last five Sunday games but also four of their last five games as a home dog. My model projects this total at 219 points, and thus I like this game to stay under the total.
The Pick: Under 224
