University of Florida sophomore forward Keyontae Johnson has been successfully transferred to UF Health after spending the last two days at Tallahassee Memorial, the team announced Monday.
Johnson remains in critical but stable condition and is ‘following simple commands and undergoing further tests’.
Before Florida’s statement, Johnson’s grandfather, Larry DeJarnett, confirmed to the USA Today Monday that Johnson was in a medically induced coma and that doctors hoped to bring him out of it that afternoon.
Johnson, a 6-foot-5, 229-pound small forward from Norforlk, VA, fell face-first while heading back onto the court after a first-half timeout during Florida’s matchup against Florida State Saturday.
He was taken off the floor on a stretcher and transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The teams finished the game, which Florida State won 83-71.
Johnson reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 during the summer, the Associated Press reported, although the cause of Johnson’s collapse is unknown at this time.
