Podcast: Talking Derrick Rose trade speculation and reviewing Talen Horton-Tucker’s season

Plus, on a semi-related note, we discuss the season that was for Talen Horton-Tucker.

The Los Angeles Lakers are NBA champions, but it took less than a week for speculation and rumors about their future plans to hit a full tilt. First, there was the report that multiple executives around the league expect LeBron James to try and get the team to trade for Chris Paul, and now Derrick Rose is being linked to the purple and gold on the trade market after being connected to them at the deadline in February as well.

On the latest episode of the Silver Screen and Roll podcast, Anthony and I discussed that latest rumor about Rose, where we think it’s coming from, and what the Pistons might want for him in a possible trade. We also discussed if we think Rose fits at all with this team and if a deal like this makes sense for the Lakers, which might be two entirely different questions. We also addressed that rumored Paul trade, and what we see as the main issue in the way these moves are being discussed.

After that, we kicked off the audio version of our season in review series with a player who is in some ways tangentially related to those rumors: Talen Horton-Tucker, the only rookie on the Lakers’ full-time roster during their run to the title, and their only draft pick from the 2019 NBA Draft.

If Horton-Tucker is capable of continuing to develop, he doesn’t make the acquisition of one-dimensional scorer like Rose completely pointless, but he does theoretically make it less necessary to give up assets to do so.
