UConn’s Akok Akok exits Memphis game with Achilles injury, MRI on Monday
By ADAM ZAGORIA
UConn redshirt freshman forward Akok Akok exited the Memphis game early on Sunday afternoon with a possible torn left Achilles.
Akok later was helped back onto the court while wearing a boot on his foot and walking with crutches. He remained on the bench to watch UConn pull out a 64-61 victory and support his teammates.
Akok is slated to have an MRI on Monday.
“It was a big win, obviously, but there’s no joy in it when something like that happens in the first minute,” UConn coach Dan Hurley told reporters. “Sports is brutal sometimes. Life is brutal sometimes.
The 6-foot-9 freshman is averaging 6.0 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Huskies.
