[Men's Basketball] Offense stays hot as men's basketball defeats SAU 98-75
LAURINBURG, N.C. – Victor Tshiona tied his season-high 21 points and four other Cavs hit double-figures Wednesday evening as Montreat College men's basketball secured their fifth straight win with a 98-75 victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent St. Andrews University.
Each of those five wins have come by a margin of double-digits, four of them by more than 20 points. Overall, the Cavs have outscored their opponents by 140 points in that span. The Cavs closed out the 2019 stint of the season with a perfect record in December, 10-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
After Tshiona's second 3-pointer of the game gave Montreat the lead in the opening minute of the contest, the Cavs would never trail again in the game as he sparked an early 13-0 run for a 16-5 advantage. The Knights came within one point in the final minute of the first half, but an Adam Riabi free throw and Jamiel Wright Bucket sent the Cavs into the break with a four-point lead.
The Cavs opened the second half with an 11-2 run to push their lead back out to 13, and SAU could never recover as their deficit never dropped below 10 the rest of the day.
In addition to Tshiona's game-high 21 points, he also led the game with eight rebounds. Joining him in double-figures was Eric Reed with 19, Jamiel Wright with 14, and Austin Butler with 11. Adam Riabi also dropped a season-high 15 points. Additionally, Wright posted a team-high five assists.
Up Next: The Cavs hit the court for the first time in 2020 when they host Truett McConnell on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
