Shawnee State freshman Jakiel Wells currently is averaging 4.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game for the Bears while leading SSU to a 7-2 overall record and six votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll on Wednesday, Nov. 27 -- the first time that the Shawnee State men have achieved such a ranking since Feb. 19, 2013.
Jakiel's 35 assists to 17 turnovers in nine games have allowed the Toledo, Ohio native to accumulate a 2.1-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio -- but Wells' IQ goes well beyond the playing floor. The Toledo St. Francis DeSales High School graduate gave his own commencement speech upon his graduation from St. Francis this past spring.
