[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Drops Tough OT Game to (17) Union
Barbourville, KY - The St. Andrews men's basketball team fell to (17) Union College in overtime on Saturday evening, 76-72.
How It Happened
The 17th in the nation Bulldogs of Union College earned the first two baskets of the game, with a 4-0 lead before Myron Williams put the Knights on the board with a made basket in the paint.
The Bulldogs held the Knights offense to just 2 points throughout the first 7 minutes of the game, with turnovers playing a huge factor in each team's play with SAU's 7 and Union's 6 at the 14-minute mark.
Martaye Sembly got things started for the Knights with a basket from behind the arc over the hands of a Bulldog, making the score 16-7, cutting Union's lead down to single digits. Isaac Clay picked off a pass from the Bulldogs and secured two points off a successful fast break to the basket, starting a 11-point run by St. Andrews to tie the game 18-18.
Union College regained the lead nearing the end of the half, with a 31-21 lead going into the second period of the game.
The second half of the AAC matchup was controlled mostly by Union's offense as they were able to hold on to the lead throughout the half. The Knights came within one point from the Bulldogs at 46-45 but were unable to obtain the lead.
With 9 minutes left in the game, D'Antre Harvey drew a foul on a Bulldog as he worked his way to the basket, making the basket and the one-shot free throw to make the score 51-48.
Jamaan Bailey sank an impressive shot from downtown to tie the game 51-51 but the Bulldogs responded with a deep 3 of their own.
Two baskets from Isaac Clay tied the game at 65-65 with 40 seconds left on the clock with neither team able to score in the final seconds, forcing the game into overtime.
The Knights took the lead for the first time of the game at 68-67 in overtime off another 3-pointer from Bailey with 3:39 left in the period.
Union created a 4-point lead with 12 seconds left in the game, making it a two-possession game, where the Knights were unable to close the 76-72 gap.
Key Players
Leading the Knights in scoring was Isaac Clay with 16 points while also picking up 4 assists and a steal.
Myron Williams also played well, recording 13 points while D'Antre Harvey earned 12.
Travis Thompson Jr. was the leading rebounder for the Knights with 10 total rebounds, 8 defensive and 2 on offense.
