Kentucky’s almost even money for NCAA title, but anything goes

The undefeated Wildcats are almost even money against the rest of the field in the upcoming NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.

If you bet $100 on Kentucky to win the title, you’ll earn $110 — if you take the rest of the field, you’d need to bet $140 to win $100, according to the odds Monday at MGM Resorts.

Jay Rood, vice president of race and sports for MGM Resorts, said Kentucky had been a stronger favorite but that the “sharps” bet the field, so he moved the line.

Sports betting is illegal in California, but legions of fans head to Reno and Vegas to place their wagers and enjoy the raucous atmosphere of sports books.

Rood notes that Kentucky had some tight games this season and says “that experience of having to struggle out of tight spots will pay dividends” in the tournament.
