Dayton gets a big win against #14 Michigan and is now receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Dayton's upset victory earned then 9 votes in the 2nd week poll despite 4 losses on the season to big time opponents. Michigan was able to stay ranked in the poll further helping Dayton's current perception.
VCU put together a similar 5 set victory against Alabama at home. The SEC looks strong this year, so this could be a nice win. They also got wins against High Point and N.C. State. VCU lost a 5 set match to UC Santa Barbara. These wins make VCU still look like a team that can challenge Dayton.
SLU followed up a 3-0 first weekend, going 1-2. SLU got a neutral victory against Eastern Washington. SLU two losses were both in 4 sets to Drake and UW Milw. In both of those matches, SLU's set victory was the largest in terms of point differential, staying close in the ones they lost. SLU still looks like a top 5 team in the conference.
La Salle swept Binghamton and Seton Hall. Neither of these wins is too impressive. Binghamton has no wins and SH has one (over Binghamton). La Salle's 3-1 loss to Northern Arizona may have been more impressive. Watch La Salle's match against Harvard closely. Big opportunity for the Explorers. La Salle then plays the same UCSB team that VCU just lost to. Good chance for comparison.
