[Tennis] CSM tennis posts 7-2 win over Grand View

FREMONT, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary tennis team notched a 7-2 win over Grand View University Saturday. The match was originally scheduled outside at CSM, but was moved to the Fremont (Neb.) YMCA because of weather conditions.

"This was a much-improved performance for us from when we met this same team last fall," CSM Coach Kim Gradoville said. "Everyone played really well and pushed even their opponents. We adjusted well to what they threw at us and stepped up when we had opportunities to do so."

The Flames swept doubles competition 3-0 to start strong.

Christina Ternent (SR/Omaha, NE) and Katie Golka (SR/Grand Island, Neb.) won 8-4 at No. 1; Allyah Rayyan (SR/Bellevue, Neb.) and Marissa Newman (SO/Papillion, Neb.) got an 8-5 win at No. 2 and Carly Bindl (JR/Papillion, Neb.) and Regi Zakrzewski (FR/Columbus, Neb.) won 8-2 at No. 3.

In singles competition, CSM's only losses came at No. 1 and No. 2. Rayyan won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3; Newman posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 4; Bindl won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and Zakrzewski cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

"I am proud of our performance as a whole team," Gradoville said. "We are looking forward to GPAC competition next week."

The Flames (3-5) play host to Hastings College at 4 p.m. Wednesday for their first conference contest.
