LeBron James defines himself as “GOAT” for beating 73 win Warriors

LeBron let the world know where he stands in the NBA all-time rankings in his mind, and it’s very much related to the team from Oakland

LeBron James announced on an ESPN show entitled “More Than An Athlete” that he believes overcoming a 3-1 deficit to defeat the 73-win Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Finals made him the greatest player of all time. Here’s ESPN’s transcript:

“That’s what I felt,” he told friends and business partners Maverick Carter, Randy Mims and Rich Paul during the episode that began streaming on ESPN+ Sunday night. “I was super, super ecstatic to win one for Cleveland because of the 52-year drought. ... The first wave of emotion was when everyone saw me crying, like, that was all for 52 years of everything in sports that’s gone on in Cleveland. And then after I stopped, I was like -- that one right there made you the greatest player of all time.

”Everybody was just talking -- how [the Warriors] were the greatest team of all time, like it was the greatest team ever assembled,” he said. “And for us to come back, you know, the way we came back in that fashion, I was like, ‘You did, you did something special.’ That’s probably one of the only times in my career I felt like, oh, s---, like you did something special. I haven’t had, really had time, to really, like, sit back and think, but that ... that was a moment.”

Gold-Blooded Translation: “Because I beat the Warriors one time in the Finals, I’m the greatest player that ever lived.”

I’m not even going to parse that “best player ever” argument right now. That’s a job for the professionals like Skip Bayless or Stephen A. Smith to scream about. I’m just a humble scribe for the Golden Empire, a kid from Oakland who watched his hometown squad battle LeBron in the Finals the last four years. And I watched us win three outta four. “3-1”.

That’s why I’m more interested in LeBron basing the centerpiece of his belief that he has ascended to the highest of all pantheon players because he... beat the Warriors once? Really? I thought we weren’t that good? (shout out to James Harden).

This truly proves how far the Dubs have evolved from bottom-feeding, coach-choking jokes into the most terrifying opposition LeBron has ever faced. What a compliment he paid us!

And to his credit, I still wistfully sigh sometimes thinking about how he led the snitching comeback that knocked out the Warriors in 2016.

Thank goodness I have 2015, 2016, and 2018 to bring my spirits back up to joyful levels.

This is literally the best time ever to be a Warriors fan, soak it up folks!
