How to watch the First Responder Bowl

The game’s on ESPN on Wednesday afternoon. You can stream it via WatchESPN or any internet TV provider that has ESPN, like a YouTube TV or PlayStation Vue.

There’s a weather delay. What’s the status of that?

There’s severe weather near Dallas, where the game’s played. Right around 2 p.m. ET, the game went into a delay that had to last at least a half-hour. With every successive lightning strike within eight miles the Cotton Bowl, the delay extends out to 30 minutes.

The game clock had 5:08 left in the first quarter. BC had a 7-0 lead, and Boise State’s offense was about to take over at its own 14-yard line after a punt.

Who’s playing in the 2018 First Responder Bowl?

Boise State (10-3, 7-1 in Mountain West)

The Broncos squandered a chance to win the Mountain West on their home field when they lost to Fresno State in overtime on Championship Saturday. Still, they have one of the best offenses in the country (when they’re not playing in a snowglobe, as they were in the MWC title game) and a defense that’s plenty good enough to win with that offense. Senior quarterback Brett Rypien’s put up big numbers, as he does, and running back Alexander Mattison’s been a workhorse for a unit that moves the ball well.

Boston College (7-5, 4-4 in ACC)

The Eagles’ season de-escalated quickly, with a three-game losing streak to close. All of those losses — to Clemson, to FSU, and to Syracuse — were clunkers. They only lost by 1 point to FSU but had just a 16 percent postgame win expectancy, meaning that play-by-play data said they were lucky to be that close. The other two were blowouts. The offense in particular faded down the stretch and couldn’t keep up with a quality BC defense. Running back A.J. Dillon is an excellent player to watch, at least.

Where is the First Responder Bowl?

Well, it’s in Dallas — specifically at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. It’s not to be confused with the Cotton Bowl, which is played at nearby AT&T Stadium. It’s also not to be confused with the nearby Frisco Bowl or nearby Armed Forces Bowl, and certainly not with the occasionally North Texas-located College Football Playoff National Championship.

This region has a lot of bowl games in it, is pretty much what I’m saying.
