[Women's Basketball] Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Handle Dragons, Earn First G-MAC Victory
TIFFIN, OH – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (2-6, 1-2 G-MAC) defeated new Great Midwest Athletic Conference school Tiffin University (2-7, 0-4 G-MAC), 72-64, at the Gillmor Student Center on Saturday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans won the first-ever meeting between to the two schools. Tiffin joined the G-MAC prior to the 2018-19 season and sponsors 22 athletic teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tiffin jumped out to an early 10-0 lead … Adi Hale (SR/Lexington, TN) helped the Trojans on a 9-2 run to trail by just three points (12-9) by scoring five quick points … Tiffin led 17-14 after the first quarter … Callie Hackett (SR/Carthage, TN) hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 19-19 in the second quarter, but the Dragons held onto their first-half lead until Brianna Bryant (JR/Athens, TN) hit a 3-pointer to put the Trojans on top with under two minutes remaining in the half … Tiffin led 34-32 at the break … after falling into a five-point hole the Trojans tied it at 37-37 after another 3-pointer from Brianna Bryant … the Trojans took their second lead (39-37) of the contest when Brittin Boyer (SR/Sullivan, IL) made a layup … Brianna Bryant hit a 3-pointer to put the Trojans on top 42-40 which began an 8-0 run … Trevecca led 51-44 after three quarters … the Trojans extended their lead to as many as 10 before defeating the Dragons by eight, 72-64.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
TNU made 76% of their free throws (22-29) while TU connected on just 46% (6-13) … TNU won the rebounding battle 39-38 … TNU led in steals (13-3) and points off turnovers (11-8).
PLAYER STATS REPORT
Callie Hackett led the way with 17 points going 7-of-9 from the free-throw line … Adi Hale added 16 points and connected on all six of her free throws … Brianna Bryant registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range … Brittin Boyer had 14 points and registered four rebounds.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Trojans return to Nashville for final exam week to host Malone University (3-6, 1-3 G-MAC) next Thursday, December 13 at 5:30 PM. Trevecca has never beaten Malone in the four prior meetings.
The Trojans conclude next week with a tilt against Walsh University (7-2, 4-0 G-MAC) on Saturday, December 15 at 2 PM. The teams split both games last season.
