[Women's Basketball] Hornets Late Run Not Enough to Top Yellowjackets

SAINT LOUIS, MO- The Hornets suffered a tough loss today, falling 63-53 to the Yellowjackets of Graceland University.

Jay'La Davis (SR/St. Louis, MO) led the offensive efforts for HSSU as she scored a game high 19 points while Kambri Davison (SO/Tulsa, OK) chipped in 11. Kierra Weir (SO/Springfield, IL) picked up a team high nine rebounds while Tarsheia Page (SO/Chicago, IL) recorded four steals.

Sarahi Rodriguez led the Yellowjackets with 16 points. Jaycee Cleaver added in 11.

The Hornets dug themselves a hole to start the game; getting down by as much as 13.

Back-to-back baskets from Davis and Marcia Hawkins (JR/Las Vegas, NV) would cut HSSU's deficit to 22-14 just before the end of the quarter.

Graceland maintained their lead throughout the second and third quarters, pushing their lead to as much as 14 in the third.

Harris-Stowe would get a big help late in the third quarter.

A three-pointer from Davis would spark a 16-0 run in the last five minutes of the 3rd to take a 46-44 lead into the final quarter.

HSSU would not able to hold their lead in the fourth quarter. Five made free-throws made by Graceland would secure their 63-53 win over the Hornets.

Harris-Stowe (1-1; 0-0 AMC) will be back in action on Thursday when they kick off American Midwest Conference play. They will host the Eagles of Williams Baptist University at 5:30 p.m. in Emerson Performance Center.
