Warriors sign Deyonta Davis

0 10

The team has also waived Will Cherry.

With the NBA season starting in just five days, the Golden State Warriors are still tinkering with their roster. On Thursday they did so with a rather intriguing move, as they signed exciting young big man Deyonta Davis.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it seems likely that the contract is non-guaranteed.

Davis, a 6’11”, athletic big, offers a lot of promise and excitement. He was drafted 31st overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, and is still only 21 years old. He spent his first two years with the Memphis Grizzlies, and last year averaged 5.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while sporting a true-shooting percentage of 62.1%.

He’s still a project in many ways, but between his size, age, and the talent he’s shown on the court, he certainly has a lot of potential. It’s a bit surprising that he made it to the final week of training camp without a contract.

The Warriors don’t really need additional frontcourt players, but Davis could still be in play to factor into the team’s plans when they trim the roster on Saturday.

In a subsequent move, the team waived Will Cherry, who had only just joined the organization.
