Warriors sign Will Cherry to Exhibit 10 contract

Golden State is adding to their depth.

It took a while to come to fruition, but it finally happened: The Golden State Warriors have signed Will Cherry to an Exhibit 10 contract.

About three weeks ago, as the team was gearing up to open training camp, it was reported that the team would sign the guard to such a deal. But it took a few preseason games and two weeks of training camp before it actually happened.

The 6’1” guard brings some depth to a Warriors team that may enter the season with only 13 players on guaranteed contracts, if the Patrick McCaw situation does not get resolved. He doesn’t have the long-term upside of a player like Marcus Derrickson or Kendrick Nunn - Cherry will turn 28 this season - but he offers some veteran experience, as he’s played three years abroad (one in the EuroLeague, and two in the EuroCup).

He also has a tiny bit of NBA experience, as he played eight games with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2014-15 season, and also spent time with the team’s G-League squad that year.

With an Exhibit 10 contract, Cherry will be incentivized to stay with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G-League. He will not be under contract with the Golden State Warriors, like a two-way contract is, but he can make extra money by playing in Santa Cruz and staying in the Warriors system.
