Dez Bryant is spending his time on the free agent market playing NFL analyst on Twitter

0 27

Bryant says he’ll be back on the football field soon, but until then, he’s continuing to tweet his thoughts on the Cowboys.

Dez Bryant reportedly turned down an offer from the Baltimore Ravens early in the offseason, and his August visit with the Cleveland Browns didn’t end with him signing a contract either.

Instead, the former Dallas Cowboys receiver is currently spending his Sundays like most of us — watching a whole lot of football from the couch.

He promises he’ll “be pursuing football again shortly,” but until then, he’s been sharing his thoughts about the NFL season on Twitter. Bryant, who also tweeted a bit about preseason football this year, is quickly becoming our favorite Twitter analyst.

He’s a believer in what Washington’s doing

Washington opened its season with a dominant 24-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals that saw the team rack up 429 total yards compared to Arizona’s 213. To Bryant, they look like “East Texans,” which is apparently a good thing.

He also said he’d be much more interested in joining Washington or New England instead of reuniting with the Cowboys.

(Both those teams lost in Week 2, FWIW.)

But most of his tweets have been reserved for his former team.

In Week 1, Bryant dialed back his Cowboys criticism ... a little bit

In July, the three-time Pro Bowl receiver started beefing with his former team on Twitter. In particular, he blasted offensive coordinator Scott Linehan’s “garbage ass play calling” which he says put “everybody in the same spot for 17 weeks.”

The Cowboys opened their 2018 season with a 16-8 loss to the Carolina Panthers and Newton tweeted his mostly benign thoughts along the way:

But he couldn’t help but feel a little validated by the Cowboys’ offensive struggles. Dallas finished with just 232 yards of total offense and didn’t convert a third down at all in the first half. Cole Beasley was the only Cowboys receiver with more than three receptions.

Bryant also laughed at the Cowboys for cutting kicker Dan Bailey and replacing him on the roster with Brett Maher, who missed his only field goal of the day.

According to Bryant, Week 1 was the last time he’ll tweets his thoughts on the Cowboys.

But before he left for the day, he reminded everyone that they should be giving Troy Aikman heat for making the same criticisms Bryant made in July.

Dez didn’t stick to his promise not to talk about the Cowboys

But this time, he had praise for his former team after Dak Prescott hit Tavon Austin for a 64-yard touchdown against the Giants in Week 2.

He went on to give Prescott some more props in the Cowboys’ 20-13 win:

And even Scott Linehan!

He kept the Cowboys tweets coming in Week 4:

Dez enjoys Eli Face as much as we do

The game against the Cowboys was a long night for Eli Manning, who was sacked six times and lost a fumble. That signaled the return of one of our favorite NFL traditions:

Just like us, Dez can’t help but laugh at that face, especially when Jaylon Smith is heading Manning’s way:

We’re just glad Bryant isn’t done speaking his mind.
