Russell Westbrook has knee surgery, may miss opening night

0 12

Opening night at Oracle Arena may be less star-studded than we thought.

We’re all counting down the days until opening night in the NBA (it’s 34 days away, in case you’re not actually counting).

On October 16, the season will begin, and the Golden State Warriors will host the Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s a lot of star talent, including three former MVPs, and exactly one quarter of last year’s All-Star selections. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if all of the stars will suit up, as Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Wednesday.

Westbrook will be re-evaluated in four weeks, which is roughly a week before the opening day showdown. It’s unclear why he waited so long to have the procedure, though he’s not the first big name to have surgery lately, as Devin Booker had a procedure earlier in the week.

Warriors fans aren’t exactly huge fans of Westbrook. Still, it would be nice if everyone’s healthy on opening night; if nothing else, it makes a win that much more fun!
