Two Tigers broadcasters got into a physical fight in the booth after a game

Just a normal fight-filled week in baseball.

It’s apparently Infighting Week in baseball this week as only a few days after the Mariners had a clubhouse fight that none of them will acknowledge or talk about, two of the Tigers’ broadcasters got into a physical fight in the booth that stemmed from what The Athletic described as “simmering tension” between the two.

Fans knew something was up when neither Rod Allen nor Mario Impemba appeared on the Tigers’ usual pregame show before Wednesday’s game, and as The Athletic first reported it’s because they fought in the booth after Tuesday night’s game at the White Sox.

Totally normal occurrence, nothing to see here folks.

Reports say that Impemba and Allen even traveled back to Detroit separately to ensure they wouldn’t get into another fight on the trip home. Yeeeeesh. The Detroit Free Press reports that one person described the fight as “severe” but there are few other details currently available as to what exactly went down, other than that it was broken up by a third party.

Apparently the two broadcasters had been at odds for quite some time and that their personalities simply don’t mesh. Which, as happens in other booths as well, can sometimes mean in-game magic. Sometimes, apparently, it can go too far and result in two professional MLB commentators throwing hands post-game instead of just knocking off to the hotel bar for Jameson and apps.

FOX Sports Detroit director of social media and communications Courtney Welch said of the incident...

“We’re addressing an internal matter and will not have any further comment at this time.”

... while Allen’s agent said of the reports

“I don’t discuss professional matters that involve my clients with people who are not my clients or their employers.”

Update: Local4 Detroit reports that the disagreement was over a chair in the booth and it involved “Impemba left the broadcast booth at some point and Allen followed, assaulting Impemba from behind and choking him.” Okayyyyy then.
