Maryland is threatening to upset Texas AGAIN
You can watch on FS1.
In 2017, Maryland shocked a ranked Texas in a deeply weird Week 1 game in Austin. The Terps won 51-41 and probably could’ve beaten the Horns worse than they did.
No. 23 Texas still wasn’t supposed to lose to Maryland in the rematch at FedEx Field this year. UT entered as about a 13-point favorite against a Maryland program that’s been in disarray, with head coach DJ Durkin on administrative leave following the death of player Jordan McNair. On top of all Maryland’s problems, Texas is — as it was last year — way more talented.
But Maryland is threatening to beat Texas anyway. Updates follow here, and you can watch on FS1 or stream on Fox Sports GO.
In the second quarter, Maryland took a 17-7 lead on a 33-yard field goal by kicker Joseph Petrino, with 14:26 to play until halftime.
Texas linebacker Gary Johnson was ejected for targeting just before that field goal, for a hit to the head area of sliding Maryland quarterback Kasim Hill. Linebacking depth was one of the Horns’ most significant roster worries heading into the year.
Things continued to get ugly for the Longhorns, after Michael Dickson’s replacement, Ryan Bujcevski, had a 15-yard punt that went out on their own 20-yard line.
Maryland then scored to make it 24-7, but Texas would answer with a quick score to make it 24-14 after a 69-yard drive in just six plays and 1:35.
In the first quarter, Maryland got two touchdowns from true freshman Jeshaun Jones, one on a 28-yard run ...

In between those, Texas receiver Devin Duvernay made a brilliant TD catch, diving and reaching out to haul in a 39-yard throw from Sam Ehlinger:

In a nice gesture by both teams, Maryland took an intentional delay of game on the first offensive snap of the game. The Terps were lined up in a missing-man formation to honor offensive lineman Jordan McNair, who died following an offseason team workout.
Texas was aware of Maryland’s move, and coach Tom Herman declined the penalty yardage.
