Warriors’ David West, a two-time NBA champion, announces retirement
David West, a former All-Star who twice passed on big paydays in pursuit of an NBA championship and wound up winning two with the Warriors, announced his retirement on Thursday.
“I have been fortunate enough to live out my childhood dream of playing in the NBA,” West wrote on Twitter. “After 15 seasons I have decided to retire from the game of basketball.
“I am humbled and thankful for the support of my family, friends, coaches, teammates, organizations, and fans throughout this experience.”
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound West — who turned 38 Wednesday — was the 18th overall pick in the 2003 draft out of Xavier.
