These players could be had, for a song
Checking in on the latest MLB trade rumors, with a bit of a twist (but not a shout).
What a relief
Here I go, here I go, here I go again. What are these teams’ biggest weakness? PEN!
- The Phillies and Giants have shown interest in Mets closer Jeurys Familia, per Buster Olney of ESPN. San Francisco ranks fourth in the National League in bullpen ERA (3.64), while the Phillies are in the middle of the pack (3.98). Either of these teams could have their own personal Jeurys, if they just pick up the receiver and trade for a reliever.
- A “growing number of teams are lining up their bids” for Orioles reliever Zach Britton, per Nick Cafardo.
- Tampa Bay on Saturday already pulled off a trade, acquiring lefty reliever Hoby Milner from Philadelphia for cash.
So Manny rumors
Manny Machado was pulled early from the Orioles’ game on Sunday, but before we could start #HugWatch, it turns out he’s still an Oriole, for now:
Source: Machado has NOT been traded. Infield sloppy after rain delay; that’s why he was pulled. #Orioles exercising abundance of caution.

For the latest Machado rumors I asked my good friend Billy Joel for a summary:
Got a call from a friend, said Machado was real close
Said he might not stay in the American League
Heard the Phils, the Yankees, and Milwaukee checked in the most
But some folks think he’ll end up going to L.A
Thin starting market
There aren’t too many starting pitchers available that move the needle. Nathan Eovaldi has looked good after missing nearly two years with injuries, and might be the best available.
The Mets are floundering in last place in the National League East at 39-55, but don’t appear to want to move Jacob deGrom nor Noah Syndergaard. Here they go again on their own, going down the only road the Mets have known. It appears New York has made up its mind, they ain’t wasting no more time.
Moose is loose?
Apparently the Red Sox, Braves and Yankees have shown interest in Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, per Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
Hot corner, check it and see. He has a wRC+ of a hundred and three five.
