Lonzo Ball will have arthroscopic knee surgery for torn meniscus, per Lakers

0

The team announced this on Tuesday.

Lonzo Ball tore the meniscus in his left knee, according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania, but he’s expected to be back for training camp. The Lakers announced on that he will have arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday. Ball was diagnosed with the injury last season, according to Charania.

The point guard battled through an injury-riddled rookie season, but showed bright spots when healthy. This injury doesn’t appear to set him back at all for the 2018-19 season.

The timing of the original injury announcement felt a bit peculiar as the Spurs and Lakers were reportedly in talks for a Kawhi Leonard trade. Ball is one of a few highly coveted young players L.A. has on its roster, and San Antonio may want him in return. This all could, however, have been be coincidental.

The good news for ball is that there’s an expectation that he won’t miss the regular season for this injury. A number of NBA athletes, including Russell Westbrook, have returned just fine after meniscus injuries.
