Jeff Fisher could be bringing his 7-9 bulls**t to an NFL broadcast near you

Who better to broadcast a Thursday night game than Mr. 7-9 himself?

Jeff Fisher says he wants to coach in the NFL again. He’s not had any takers for his very special brand of boring football that always seems to get slightly below-average results. He’s been floating around behind the scenes since the Rams gave him the boot late in the 2016 season, one game away from becoming pro football’s greatest all-time losing coach.

We should’ve known that it was impossible to keep Fisher away from the NFL for very long. Even thought teams are still unwilling to commit to his patented 7-9 program, he might still be coming to an NFL broadcast near you this season as a television talking head. The Sporting News is reporting that Fisher is in talks with Fox Sports to be a game analyst for their NFL broadcasts.

On Thursday, we learned that instead of a full-on analyst gig, Fisher’s getting a one-game to try his hand in the booth.

We’ll see how far this gets, but since Fox bought the rights to Thursday Night Football, well, the game’s most subpar coach with the sport’s most subpar offering just seems like a match made in heaven to me.

Fisher was very good at being bad at his job, so much so that he was able to coach in the NFL for more than two decades. The Rams 86’d him in December 2016, and finished the season with a 4-12 record. Rookie head coach Sean McVay replaced him the next year, led the Rams to an 11-5 record and their first playoff appearance since the 2004 season, which probably says all you need to know about why Fisher hasn’t found work as a head coach since.

But, hey, that wasn’t entirely Fisher’s fault, according to Fisher.

I really don’t know how he’d be in the booth. Nobody gave Tony Romo much of a chance, and he turned out to be one of the best parts of the 2017 season. I doubt Fisher would be that good, given his take on the game was mostly about playing like it was still 1985.

Then again, maybe he’ll say stuff like this ...
