Oregon St. & Mississippi St. play for a spot in the College World Series finals

Oregon State & Mississippi State play for the right to face Arkansas in the finals.

We are down to just three teams in the 2018 College World Series, and that will be trimmed by one on Saturday when Oregon State plays Mississippi State for the right to go to the best-of-three finals.

The winner of Saturday night’s game (8 p.m. ET, ESPN) will play Arkansas, who advanced to their first final in 39 years by eliminating defending champion Florida on Friday night.

The Beavers avoided the same fate by beating the Bulldogs on Friday, a 12-2 win that was Mississippi State’s first loss in Omaha. Oregon State overcame a loss in their opening game of the College World Series by pouring on the offense, scoring in double digits in each of their last three games, all wins. The Beavers have scored 43 runs in their four games in Omaha.

Mississippi State allowed just two total runs in their first two wins at TD Ameritrade Park before the Beavers dropped 12 runs on them on Friday.

Oregon State is seeking their first trip to the College World Series finals since winning back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007. Mississippi State last reached the finals in 2013, and is in search of their first NCAA baseball championship.

After Saturday there is an off day before starting the best-of-three finals against Arkansas on Monday night.
